Prof. Dr. Bustanul Arifin, PhD., officially confirmed as a Professor of Economic Agriculture, in Agriculture faculty, at Lampung University (UNILA) on 20 February 2006. In scientific oration called “Role of Economic Agriculture Study in Create a Culture, a Reflection for Reposition”, He believes that Economic Agriculture has a role in creating a culture. Prof. Bustanul, who is active in direct research in the field with the farmer, got a scholarship and finished his master degree and got his PhD in 1995 at Wisconsin-Madison University, USA.

Prof Bustanul, who was born in Madura, has a thick Nahdatul Ulama culture. He also has a passion in studying social economic and made him join INDEF. However, now he is fully involved as an expert team in IRN. Bustanul Arifin is once involved in INDEF’s study about flour commerce, that criticized the government (Bulog) and Indofood-Bogasari. Bustanul also have an experience in consultancy from USAID, World Bank, UND, and ILO. His broad experience and wide networking make him productive as a columnist and a speaker in various mass media and national seminar.
